Cleaning during COVID-19

How to keep your home and family safe during the pandemic.

After testing positive, not only do you have to worry about how this is going to affect you, your loved ones and the people around you. You also have to think about how you can work, where your finances may come from and how can you ensure the germs won't be passed to others.

There are a variety of products on the market that can help you. Some of these products 'claim' to kill Covid-19 but what you are actually looking for are products that kill Sars-Cov-2. This is the virus that is causing COVID-19 and these products will have been tested and ensure that anything in your home or workspace will be killed during the cleaning process.

From the World Health Organisation website - Regular household cleaning and disinfection products will effectively eliminate the virus from household surfaces. For cleaning and disinfecting households with suspected or confirmed COVID19, surface virucidal disinfectants, such as 0.05% sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and products based on ethanol (at least 70%), should be used.

When you are isolating, as far as possible you should be using said products on your high touch points. These include:

Door handles

Remotes

Phones

Toilet flushes

Tap handles

Window handles

The woodwork around the door where people will touch (dependant on the size of the people in the house) generally from your knees to your head.

Drawer handles

Bins

Toaster levers

Kettle handle and button

Socket switches

Banisters

Light switches

Following the virus it is worth washing all your bedding on a 60 degree wash and giving the house a clean from top to bottom. Below are the times that the virus will stay alive on certain materials. Knowledge is power and the more you understand this virus the more in control and safe you can keep those around you.

An early study has found that the virus is viable for up to 72 hours on plastics, 48 hours on stainless steel, 24 hours on cardboard, and 4 hours on copper. It is also detectable in the air for three hours.

We are all here to help and support each other through this scary time. The more information you know. the less scary this will be and we will get through this.
